The following are possible questions for the final. Seven of these will be on the test. You will write essays for four of the questions. The test will also feature three maps.

How did initial motives for colonization create long-term problems in the Middle East?

Describe the distinct differences and the fundamental similarities between socialism/communism and fascism.

What key historical events led to the creation and division of the Koreas? How do they impact the current situation?

What is a kleptocracy? What are the key features? What countries are examples?

Discuss the possibility of North and South Korea reunifying.

Considering the history behind the Israeli- Palestinian conflict, evaluate the prospects for peace in that region.

Define globalization. Why does it occur? Has it occurred since the end of the Cold War? Use examples.

Explain the rise of communism in China.

Discuss Friedman’s views on the Cold War and Globalization.

Why was the Treaty of Versailles/ League of nations so controversial and complicated?

Why did the League of Nations fail?

How will Kim Jong-Il’s successor potentially change North Korea’s political system?

What caused Gulf War I and Gulf War II? Explain the connections between the conflicts.

Define and explain Colonialism.

Explain the abuses that occurred in the Congo Free State under King Leopold , and link those abuses to the current state of affairs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
