Scheduling and Class Changes

2007 - 2008 Course Catalog

Schedule Changes
There are two periods a year when schedules can be changed solely based on a student’s request. The beginning of the school year allows for a 2-week window to change schedules as well as a second 2-week window at the beginning of the 2nd semester. Students will be expected to wait to make schedule changes 2nd semester until after the registrar has updated the system, which typically takes a couple of days. Students must complete the SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUEST FORM (from your counselor) and obtain all the necessary signatures. Changes are made on a first come basis and class availability.

Level Changes
Students may request to drop or add an Honors class, or a teacher may recommend a move to a different track. A level change can only occur until mid-quarter of the first and third quarters, or between the first and second semester. Students should obtain a LEVEL CHANGE FORM (from your counselor) and obtain all the necessary signatures. The student may not drop a full year class after the fall drop date (third week of school). If, in rare circumstances, a student must drop a class after the final drop date, the withdrawal grade will appear on the transcript.

Scheduling Classes for the next school year
The counselors spend a good portion of second semester helping students make their class selections for the next school year. The process includes many steps and always involves an individual meeting between counselor and student before any final decisions are made. Parents are welcome to request a meeting at any time with their daughter’s counselor with questions regarding scheduling.

Timeline:

  • January/February
    • Counselors hold class meetings with each grade level to go over the class selection process for the next school year
    • Students fill out a schedule request form with the classes they would like to take and we build the schedule based on their requests
  • February/March
    • Mrs. Walkup (Academic Dean) builds the master schedule and enters each student’s requests
  • March/April
    • Starting soon after Spring Break, each student will meet with her counselor individually to go over her schedule for the next year. Students may or may not receive all their requests, but we will work with them to get them the best possible schedule.
    • Students will fill out an official scheduling form for the next year during their counselor meeting and take home to review with their parents.
    • Students will return the form by the deadline with a parent signature indicating that all agree on the proposed schedule.
    • Students will receive their finalized schedule at orientation in the fall.
