Congratulations to AP Art students Michelle Frost and Sophie Hoad for receiving awards at the University of St. Mary Annual High School Art Invitational. Seventeen high schools are represented in the show now appearing in the art gallery of The University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, KS. Fifteen Sion students have artwork in the show. The gallery is now open on Sunday, March 29th and Sunday, April 5th fron 2:00-4:00.

Michelle Frost received an honorable mention for her collage/painting.

Sophie Hoad received a scholarship award for her watercolor/pencil collage.

Sion journalism students Rebecca Johnson and Natalie Truman have both been declared national winners in the Quill & Scroll 2008 Yearbook Excellence Contest. Rebecca won two categories and Natalie won one. They receive Gold Keys and the chance to apply for scholarships. Way to go!
The first ever Bill Waris Certificate of Recognition for Youth Service Award recipient is Sion senior Kelly Barry. Kelly will be recognized at the St. Thomas More Souper Bowl on Saturday, January 31 at the Whitfield Center at Avila University. Congratulations to Kelly for this honor.
Siren staff writers Paige Fors and Emily Santiago were selected to participate in the Kansas City Youth Poetry Symposium, which honors only twenty distinguished student poets in the Kansas City metro area each year. As part of the symposium, Paige and Emily took part in a poetry reading on Friday 11/21 at Unity Temple on the Plaza. Please take a moment to congratulate Paige and Emily and don't forget to visit the Siren, Sion's online literary magazine.
In July the Sion varsity cheerleaders attended UCA summer camp and were awarded the Superior Trophy, given to the squad that exemplifies spirit, commitment, and leadership as well as the "top banana" award.  In August the cheerleaders competed in MCCA's Missouri Regional Cheerleading Championships at Lee's Summit North High School and received a bid to compete in the State Championships on November 14th and 15th, 2008 at the Hearnes Center on the campus of the University of Missouri, Columbia.  Their cheers, stunts, and dance routine were deemed by judges to rate with the best in the state.

Congratulations to the Sion yearbook and newspaper girls who swept the awards at the K-State summer journalism camp (out of some 500 students in attendance) and also took first place at the MU summer Journalism camp.  Awards are as follows:
