Writing the College Application Essay for Rising Seniors

Don't wait until fall to write those essays that most colleges require. Take this course, and, by the end of the session, have several drafts tht could be used or slightly altered for the topics that colleges predictably assign. Note: students enrolling in this course will need to email the teacher two short required pieces by May 15 for the early summer classes and July 16 for the late summer classes. Fall 2010 Events:
Miami-Ohio University Bridges Program 2010
Bridges is an all expense paid (housing & meals), selective overnight visit program for academically ambitious high school seniors (class of 2011) from all over the United States. Students who successfully complete the program and apply for first-year admision to Miami for Fall 2011 will receive a $50 admission application fee waiver. Successful participants will also receive a $2,500 four-year renewable scholarship if they are accepted and enroll at Miami University. There will be 3 sessions: November 7-8, November 14-15 and November 21-22.
This an is opportunity for students to visit the campus, spend time in a residence hall, participate in an academic class, tour campus, eat in the dining halls, and interact with current Miami students, faculty and staff. This program will highlight opportunities and resources for students from historically underrepresented populations on Miami's campus. Application criteria include:
* Graduate of 2011
*Minimum 3.0 GPA
*Demonstrated leadership/co-curricular involvement
*Students from underrepresented populations or students who have a commitment to promoting a deeper understanding of and appreciation for cultural diversity.

Scripps College Fly-In Diversity Program
This program provides Black, Latina, and Native American high school seniors the opportunity to visit and learn more about Scripps College. They are now accepting nominations for the graduating class of 2011 to participate in the September 2010 program. Travel grants are available for students with financial need.
