PSAT/PLAN Testing
The PSAT is the pre-SAT and the PLAN is the pre-ACT. Both tests are prepared and scored by the parent companies of the SAT and ACT and are excellent test preparation resources. The counselors provide basic information regarding test-taking strategies and content during sophomore and junior English classes in the fall. Timeline:
Sophomore Year
- Fall
- All sophomores take the PSAT (October) for practice
- All sophomores take the PLAN (November)
- Winter
- Score reports for PSAT and PLAN are returned (early January) and explained in English classes
Junior Year
- Fall
- All juniors take the PSAT (October) as a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship Competition
- Only a few receive high enough scores to be recognized and this is by no means the only way to earn scholarships for college.
- Winter
- Score reports for the PSAT are returned (early January) and explained in English classes)
- Spring
- Juniors begin taking the ACT and SAT
- Juniors begin to meet with college counselor
