The Book
Thief reading project
Book drive donation
guidelines
As part of our community wide reading of The Book Thief, our Sion
student book club and National Honor Society chapter are
sponsoring a book drive to collect books for several local
schools.
Instead of donating random books, however, and in
keeping with the theme of The Book
Thief, we ask that each
participant choose one book with some special personal meaning
attached--one that inspired or entertained you sometime in your life
that you would like to pass along to another reader. For
students, this could be a book that they read or was read to them as a
child, or a book read recently either in school or as
outside reading. For adult participants (staff, faculty, and
parents), this might also be a book that they have
shared with their own or other children or students. We will accept any
reading level from pre-reader, picture books to adult literature
as donations for this project.
In conjunction with the book
donation, a letter writing activity is planned for all participants on
the day of The Book Thief
event which has been scheduled for the
afternoon of August 22nd.
Note: If you have been collecting additional books to donate this
summer, donation boxes will be located in English classrooms during the
first few weeks of the school year. These books will be given to
local schools and charitable organizations as well.
